Best Bowfin / Dogfish Lakes in Oakland County
I want to get my friend on his first bowfin so I'm trying to plan a trip to target them soon. Does anyone know any good Oakland County lakes for bowfin? I've caught some at Kent Lane before, but I've never had multiple in one trip. Any tips on where to find them or lakes with good populations...

Anyone target them? Any Techniques? I got one a couple years back at Kent Lake and it put up a heck of a fight. Got it in the net took a picture and it flipped out of the net right after that.

The smaller Dogfish took a 8 inch perch and the bigger one took a 4 inch perch. I am glad we put them back in the lake because Chris did some re-search and they are actually GOOD for a lake.

What's the deal with dogfish? Caught one today at luch about 28" on the shiawasee river and folks near me said not to put back in the water. Wondering your opinion? FIshing for crappie the other night when I landed a 31 inch bowfin (dogfish). Gave quite a fight on my crappie pole with 4 lb test. One ugly fish. I released it but later found that it is quite a predator and eats lots of good fish. Should I have destroyed it or released it. What do you guys do with them? :yikes:

the main difference between the burbot and the dogfish, is the dogfish have a large spot on their "tail" They are very aggressive and are caught while bass fishing alot. Burbot mostly feed at night and usually on the bottom.
